Depression is a Cry for Help

Signs: worrying, irritability, ,sleeplessness, hopelessness, low energy and sadness.

Depression is a Cry for Help

The depressed person needs someone to trust.
He or she is in need of someone to open up to, and express
 their innermost feelings.

The need is to trust someone with his or her personal feelings.
They need a shoulder to lean on that is supportive and trustworthy.
Most people aren’t looking for advice. They only want someone who
will listen to them and understand their need, and is patient with them.
Meeting the depressed person at his or her point of need is important.

The depressed person can’t heal, by holding their feelings inside.
Willing to allow them to cry if they should tear up, letting them know
you are there for them is love expressed.
Sometimes Love is the best medicine.

Autism

__ Ellen J. Barrier
Author/Medical Professional /

Autism is one of a group of serious developmental problems called autism spectrum disorders (ASD) that appear in early childhood — usually before age 3. Though symptoms and severity vary, all autism disorders affect a child's ability to communicate and interact with others.

The number of children diagnosed with autism appears to be rising. It's not clear whether this is due to better detection and reporting of autism, a real increase in the number of cases, or both.

While there is no cure for autism, intensive, early treatment can make a big difference in the lives of many children with the disorder.

Social skills

Fails to respond to his or her name
Has poor eye contact
Appears not to hear you at times
Resists cuddling and holding
Appears unaware of others' feelings
Seems to prefer playing alone — retreats into his or her "own world"

Children with autism generally have problems in three crucial areas of development — social interaction, language and behavior. But because autism symptoms vary greatly, two children with the same diagnosis may act quite differently and have strikingly different skills. In most cases, though, severe autism is marked by a complete inability to communicate or interact with other people.

Some children show signs of autism in early infancy. Other children may develop normally for the first few months or years of life but then suddenly become withdrawn, become aggressive or lose language skills they've already acquired. Though each child with autism is likely to have a unique pattern of behavior, these are some common autism symptoms:

Some researchers have suggested environmental factors may play a larger role in triggering autism than was previously thought.

Symptoms:

Bipolar disorder is characterized by cycles of depression and mania, a euphoric, high-energy state that can result in heightened levels of creativity or output as well as erratic or risky behavior. People with bipolar disorder are at high risk of substance abuse and suicide, and treatment includes psychiatric care and medication.

Study:
About 2.4% of people around the world have had a diagnosis of bipolar disorder at some point in their lifetime, according to the first comprehensive international figures on the topic.

The United States has the highest lifetime rate of bipolar disorder at 4.4%, and India the lowest, with 0.1%.
However, fewer than half of people with the disorder were treated by a mental health professional, and only a quarter of those in lower-income countries sought treatment, according to the 11-nation study in the March issue of Archives of General Psychiatry.

However, fewer than half of people with the disorder were treated by a mental health professional, and only a quarter of those in lower-income countries sought treatment, according to the 11-nation study in the March issue of Archives of General Psychiatry.

The U.S. ranked higher in every category of bipolar disorder as did, in general, other high-income countries. One exception was Japan, which had a lifetime prevalence of 0.7%. Colombia, a lower-income nation, also bucked the trend with a relatively high prevalence of 2.6%.

The study included people with either bipolar I or II. Bipolar I has the more severe symptoms (both depression and mania) and bipolar II has less severe symptoms.
Despite the regional variations, there were many similarities across the countries studied, including comparable symptoms and the fact that many people with bipolar disorder also had another mental health problem, usually an anxiety disorder (most often panic attacks).

No matter where people lived, bipolar disorder caused serious problems and impairment. About three-quarters of people with depression and half of those with mania said their symptoms disrupted their work or social life and relationships disorder. For other uses, see Mania (disambiguation).

Mania

Mania, the presence of which is a criterion for certain psychiatric diagnoses, is a state of abnormally elevated or irritable mood, arousal, and/ or energy levels.[1] In a sense, it is the opposite of depression. The word derives from the Greek "μανία" (mania), "madness, frenzy"[2] and that from the verb "μαίνομαι" (mainomai), "to be mad, to rage, to be furious".[3]

In addition to mood disorders, individuals may exhibit manic behavior as a result of drug intoxication (notably stimulants such as cocaine or methamphetamine), medication side effects (notably steroids), or malignancy. However, mania is most often associated with bipolar disorder, where episodes of mania may alternate with episodes of major depression. Gelder, Mayou and Geddes (2005) suggests that it is vital that mania is predicted in the early stages because the patient becomes reluctant to comply to the treatment. The criteria for bipolar do not include depressive episodes and the presence of mania in the absence of depressive episodes is sufficient for a diagnosis. Regardless, even those who never experience depression experience cyclical changes in mood. These cycles are often affected by changes in sleep cycle (too much or too little), diurnal rhythms and environmental stressors.

Mania varies in intensity, from mild mania known as hypomania to full-blown mania with psychotic features including hallucinations, delusion of grandeur, suspiciousness, catatonic behavior, aggression, and a preoccupation with thoughts and schemes that may lead to self neglect.[4] Since mania and hypomania have also been associated with creativity and artistic talent,[5] it is not always the case that the clearly manic bipolar person will need or want medical assistance; such people will often either retain sufficient amount of control to function normally or be unaware that they have "gone manic" severely enough to be committed or to commit themselves ('commitment' means admission to a psychiatric facility). Manic individuals can often be mistaken for being on drugs or other mind-altering substances.

Imitation Love: How it Relates To Health

Nakema McKnight
Owner/Instructor at Cut It Up Hair Gallery

True-Lust is an emotion that comes to offset love. It is truly the enemy of Love because it tries to take love's place in your heart. You can be in love with a person, but then another person can come along to try to imitate love and distract you from the real love. That's why God is against adultery, because when you cheat on your spouse, you are really imitating the love you really have, and breaking your commitment to them. And you also hurt them to the point, where you feel that you may not have really been in love with them in the first place.

When you do that, God is angry because he knows that the lust you are feeling is not of his spirit and it will not last, but you may desire to break off your real love because the lust has caused you to doubt it! Lust does not last! Love does! If you act on lust, it will bring forth sin and sin punishes itself in the natural and then punishes eternally in the afterlife.

The enemy has fruits of his own spirit, and lust is one of them. When you are in love with someone, the enemy will come along to break up that love. He is the enemy of love, because he has never loved, and cannot love! He cannot love because love is God and if he loved, it would bring glory to the father of love, GOD! So, he tries to plant his spiritual seeds into your mind and heart by creating lust for forbidden things. But understand, God is not forbidding you to lust or commit sexual perversions because he wants to stop your fun, but God is trying to save your life.

Diseases, murder, loneliness, heartaches, discontentment, low self worth, bitterness, shamefulness, and spiritual death are all consequences of acting on lust. God wants you full of joy and living above all these things. He doesn't want you to grow the fruit of the devils seeds, but he wants you to live according to his promises! So, he defies lust with true love, and when we really love, we will defy lust and follow the real love that we have for one another.

"Can You Love Without Forgiveness?" was written by Pamela Nunley.  She noted in this article the importance of forgiveness. She gives detail information on the whole meaning of love, from a biblical standpoint of view and from the human emotion of passion. Pamela explains the struggle many have with forgiveness and the need to ask for spiritual intervention, in the book titled, POWER!

Noting the relationship between health and  forgiveness, Pamela states, " If you are in distress where you feel like everything you do turns out wrong, and you're sick and tired of being sick and tired you are just the person I am writing to."

Margine Mims, gives us a deeper understanding of what its like to live with a deep depression due to stress she suffered having suffered the loss of her husband, son, and grandson, who passed away within short periods of time. She gives details of the struggle she had with her health due to this metal disorder, and how she overcame it.

Hypertension, can be a major threat to an individual's health, if it is uncontrolled. It can cause stroke, heart disease, and other health problems. Having the knowledge to understand hypertension and other health factors, can help one to better care for their health. Listed below, is some very helpful information that can be used in a daily plan:

Health & Physical Fitness

We must use the knowledge God has given us and realize that when we fail to eat the proper foods,  and to take care of our bodies, we put ourselves at risk to endanger our health.  In chapter eight, Nutrition: God's Way for Mankind, lists the proper foods to eat, and the kinds of exercises to do to relieve tension, and calm the nerves, and to tone the body.

Health & Personal Care Products

As, I noted in a recent article I wrote, our attitude has an overall influence on our health. Healthy bone marrow is very necessary for good health. Bone marrow contributes to our lymphatic system and circulatory system- thereby, resulting in a healthy immune system. An unhealthy attitude places stress on the body systems, because it doesn't allow the mind to relax in a peaceful manner. If the mind is not relaxed, it causes the body to become tense and uncomfortable.

In Honor of Someone Who Died of Cancer

In honor of someone who died of cancer, survived, or who is fighting against it.

                                                                   Sonja Cain Barrier

Stupid cancer. We all want a new car, a new phone. A person who has cancer only wants one thing... to survive. I know that a lot of you "who think you're too cool" probably won't re-post this. But a very little amount of my friends will. Put this on your wall in honor of someone who died of cancer, survived, or who is fighting against it.

"In memory of my mother Wanda, my sister Donna, mother-in-law Lee, father-in-law Roy, Aunt Alma, Aunt Pat, Uncle Tom, Cousin Anne, Cousin Pat and many more" and "To the survivors, myself, my sister Cyndy, my sister Sheryl, my niece Whitney, many other friends who are fighting right now."

Stress is a mental or emotional pressure within the mind. Whether caused by the loss of a loved one, job, relationship, marriage, or other reasons, most likely, every individual will experience some form of stress in their lifetime. There are other related forms of depression noted in this book; Psychosis and Manic. Also, the types of Schizophrenia are discussed. I share an experience with my readers from my early childhood memories, one which shows the connection of stress and suicide in this particular case.
If stress isn't controlled, it can lead to psychological and physical harm.

Autism

According to a recent report on autism, there seem to be an increase in the number of cases detected.
" It's not clear whether this is due to better detection and reporting of autism, a real increase in the number of cases, or both,"  the author of the report, informed. There is no cure for autism,  although, early treatment can  help.

Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. It is one of a group of serious developmental problems called autism spectrum disorders or (ASD). Parents who have children with this disorder, can help educate our society regarding symptoms, and how best to care for children with ASD.

How to Help Eliminate the Hidden Enemy that Triggers Autism
"A new scientific review reveals there are a host of peer-reviewed, published theories that show possible connections between vaccines and autism. Living With Stress and Coming Out!

Ellen J.  Barrier

Shared by: Margine  Mims

My name is Mrs. Margine Mims, and I am 71- years- of- age. Also, I'm a mother of nine ( 9) children, twenty-seven (27) grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. I was born and reared in Dangerfield, Texas in a small community known as Piney Heights. I have been a life-time member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, which is located in Dangerfield, Texas; my pastor is Pastor Alfred Key, Sr. I'm a proud founder of the non-profit organization named Black Community Scholarship Foundation, which was established to help young black males/females achieve their educational goals. Also, I am the District President of the purity class and the youth group at my Church.

Some of my other activities include volunteering my services to U.S.D.A, which is a service available to elderly people to get their homes repaired. Therefore, I help prospective applicants complete their applications. Although I am a very blessed woman, I just like others, have to go through my share of trials and tribulations. Some of my trials and tribulations consist of losing my grand son, Chris, who played football for the Miami Hurricanes and enrolled in a graduate school, died in a car accident in February of 2002.

Another drastic event that I had to encounter, was loosing my oldest son, Elder Willie Searcy, to a battle of cancer. Willie, was the founder of the Marantha Church of God in Christ, located in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. Two years later, (2006), death came and took my husband, Milton Mims; he died of heart problems. It was during these trying times that stress had entered my life. I   realized that my heartaches and all that pain inside, was too much for me to handle.

Therefore, I began to ask myself, What is Stress? Stress is a force, pressure, and strain that produces a change in one's life, which is what I had experienced. All of those bad things (death of love ones) that happened to me brought about a change in my life; I began feeling frustrated, unhappy, and very overwhelmed. Because of the stress, my daily life was affected greatly. I started making bad decisions and could not handle or deal with daily tasks. At that time, I did not understand why I couldn't function as I  normally did in the past, especially with the simplest things in my life, but now, I know it was stress, which does dramatically affect the mind and body, and makes it harder to cope with everyday living.

I could talk a life time about stress, but words alone, cannot describe how stress affects a person. I was feeling sick with symptoms such as high blood pressure out of control, depressed, tensed, having anxiety attacks, severe headaches, had mood swings, and restless/tired constantly. Stress, is a spirit that the devil plants in your mind, and the spirit talks to you and keeps you from sleeping at night. I would wake up tired and weak, which would make everyday hard for me to function.

I had allowed stress to take over to the point, where I couldn't thank God, because I thought he had forgotten me. I felt helpless, and didn't think I could rely on anyone. So, I began to go to the doctor, who would inform me that I was "Just under a lot of stress, as well as a state of depression," which I didn't want to accept. It was hard for me to believe it was stress, that was making my life so miserable. Needless to say, the doctor gave me some medications, which didn't make me feel better, actually, it made me feel worse.

I began to lose weight because I didn't have any desire or appetite to eat. I almost gave up on my health. I would just lay around the house, and isolated myself from everyone. But, thank God for deliverance.

One day a missionary came to my house and laid hands on me and prayed for my deliverance. I began to realize that God had sent me a message through this woman. God was telling me how to get my life back in order, because he was not through with me yet. He was telling me, how to eliminate stress, and start living again. God stepped in, right on time, as he always has. God told me to "Go to church at noon everyday and pray, and lay before him." I was to read his word and continually praise him and lift him up - give Him th Glory. He put his words in my mouth to speak to his people.

When  he gave me the answer that I had been seeking, I decided that I would not live a stressful life. I knew that I now have a way out from under the devil -stress, which was through God 's word. The word says, "I will not leave you nor forsake you. Lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world."(Matthew 28:20).

It was then my life began to change in the direction that God guided. I began sleeping on my Bible, anointing myself and speaking God's words to the stress demons. Yet, it seemed like the more I spoke God's words, the more the mountain of stress would try to build. It was then and there, that I made up my mind that the devil is a liar and that God's words work. "Wherefore, take unto you the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand." (Ephesians 6:13-14). I found out that the enemy yields only to what he must and what is taken. Therefore, the ground must be taken.

God's word gave me the authority to take my life back. He let me know the scriptures can't be broken. I continued to pray everyday, and read other books on God's healing. I did these things because healing was what I needed.  Every morning and night, I would read God's word and quote it. I had to learn through his word. There are many people who are saved and stressed out, because the  aren't taking care of their bodies and mind.

They need to learn to relax, and meditate on God's words. And, do what he says. You cannot allow the devil to put the spirit of stress in your life. Remember, your body is your temple of the Holy Ghost. God wants us to do the right things (spiritually) eat healthy, exercise, relax etc. Keep in mind, that prayer is key to all mental sickness. You need to be aware that stress damages the mind and body; You need to control your stress -don't let it control you. Always read the words and stay in touch with God, so you will be prepared when stress arrive.

Controlling Stress

Many people encounter stress, due to lack of scheduling their daily tasks. Some wait, until the very last minute, before doing anything. Scheduling, my tasks a day ahead, make them easier for me, the next day.

Before I started scheduling, my tasks were overwhelming! Trying to get too many things accomplished - caused difficulty in sleeping. This brought on sleep apnea attacks. Working outside of the home, being a parent, and spouse - and having to attend events, can be very stressful!  And increasingly stressful, if you are a student or a career parent.
I can relate to all of the above.

Scheduling Tasks

Never schedule more than you know, you can do.  Start with a few tasks for each day. Make a six-day schedule.  Make a shopping list. Plan the shopping list, on the day, that is not your shopping day. This allows to carefully list all of the things you will need, until you need to visit the store again. Never wait until you run out of food, before you go shopping. When I shop, I buy enough food to last for two weeks. But, I will visit the store two days, before I run out of food.

*Laundry should never be done while other tasks are being performed.
*Plan your menu for the next day, and don’t alter your plan.

 Holiday preparation:

1.Start shopping several days ahead of the holiday:
2.House cleaning and shopping, shouldn’t be done on the same day
3.purchase foods that you know your family will eat
4.Shop when you aren’t rushed for time
5.Shopping for food and gifts for the holidays, aren’t stressful when done on
   separates days
6. Shop for gifts on the days  you have more time to spend in the store.
7. Pick a time of the day or night, that you feel the stores in your community
    are less crowded.

Allowing Time for Yourself

This is very difficult to do. But when it is done, it relieves tension, that causes stress.
Before going to bed, take time to unwind. Find something that helps you to relax. Never schedule any tasks for all 7 days of  the week. Use one day to have some freedom.

I found that sitting on the floor and stretching, along with taking deep breaths and some other forms, of exercises - I came up with, help me to relax, and sleep more comfortably. Since these exercises, have greatly helped me, I want to share them with others.
